we took mod*tot ice skating atberkeleyiceland before it closes in march. mod*opa won the 2007 u.s. short track speedskating master's champion title friday in cleveland, ohio! yay! he's also the california state masters champion. he's been speedskating at berkeleyiceland since 1968 when he immigrated with his parents from holland. he met mod*pop's mom at berkeleyiceland. (i had my 6th birthday party there) + we spent several nights a week skating there for many years while mod*pop trained for the 1990 + 2002 winter olympics, so we're sad berkeleyiceland will close forever march 31st, unless it's somehow saved. saveberkeleyiceland.org has received $500,000 in donations + several million dollars from the city to purchase the 1940 built rink, which has been registered as a historic site, but they need more donations or the largest ice sheet west of the mississippi will melt away.
i met my husband at a short track speedskating club session in 1994 :) his 2002 olympic training team mate apolo ohno is going to be on dancing with the stars airing march 17th!!! he's a break dancer! go apolo!!!
2.23.2007 mod*tot did wonderfully on her 1st day of nursery school! she was very enthusiastic + friendly + eagerly participated in all the activities offered. i got to accompany her since it was her 1st day. the school is part of the psychology department of a prestigious university (i apologize for bragging, but i'm ecstatic she's at my dream school for her + soooo grateful i'm alive to see her beginning her formal education + i'm well enough to participate :)
1st she painted "a painting", then she pretend cooked + served it to a baby doll + me + her, next she "washed" the dishes,then she helped with making "thunder cake" from a recipe in a book a teacher read (there are 35 students + 5 teachers with master's degrees. each teacher has 7 students that sit at their table during snack time, otherwise the teachers are stationed at activity areas + the students can choose where to spend their freeplay time). then she played outside at the little houses + garden, later she played inside with dollhouses + a set of huge blocks, then another teacher read books to the class. it was wonderful!!!!!
