Playskool ad 1970, originally uploaded by obsequies

i adore the 1970 dressy bessy! i bought mod*tot a newer version + it's basically the same doll, but with different materials + colors that aren't nearly as mod. we'll use it as a pattern to make one like the original.

I loved my Dressy Bessy! Thanks for a great walk down memory lane.

Those are the cutest dolls I've ever seen.

My mom saved my Dressy Bessy. She was my pal -along with Holly Hobby. Her vinyl shoes are chewed up (alas, I had a bad habit of doing that when I was a wee girl!)

you pals are so lucky that had a dressy bessy!

I really enjoy your blog. The dressy bessy was my favorite toy - I haven't thought about that in years. The 70s was such a good time to be a kid.

I just bit into a madeleine, not only did I have a Dressy Bessy, my brother had Dapper Dan. I wish my mom was alive so I could show her this.

i'd love to get my sons a dapper dan. i wondered if these were still available...but like you, i'd need it in the old clothes. :)

You can get the old ones on ebay.

I have the original 'Dapper Dan', teaching doll by Playskool. I bought it for one of my sons in 1975. It is in great condition except the back of the head has some woren areas. If interested email me at cclakeside@aol.com and I can email a picture.
