today, mod*tot raced with her friends, classmates + hundreds of kids in the ryan's ride bike race benefiting lance armstrong's foundation
+ cancer survivor programs around the bay area.

ryan's ride was created by a cancer survivor + his wife, who had twin sons that went to bing nursery school at stanford university, like mod*tot. 1 of the twins, ryan passed away suddenly of unexplained cause, so his parents created this wonderful community fundraising event in his honor. it's part of the burlingame criterium raced by amateurs + professionals. mod*tot's mod*opa (grandfather) + mod*pop (father) raced in their categories too (my husband won the criterium race once). i ran along the course with mod*tot (the kids are so cute!). we spotted top pros + long time biking friends, like olympian sheila young's husband jim ochowitz, best friend of lance armstrong + father of local olympic hopeful ellie.

Sounds like a great time and a great cause

Fun! And yay for mod*tot! I'm so glad there was such a great turn-out for the event.

hey sarah! i peeked at your blog. i used to live in a house bought from that french actor Jean-Paul Belmondo in your side-bar picture from Breathless with jean seberg. his daughter lived in the house, but he owned it, in piedmont, california.

small world :)

How cool is that! I wish awesome French actors owned houses in North Carolina...Lucky you :)
Small world indeed!

The Phua family belongs to the same parents of multiples club as we do and I really admire how they turned their tragedy into something positive. What a wonderful way to commemorate their son!

Very cool. We've got a similar ride here in Tempe, AZ. Great fun for a Great cause!

Good for you getting the whole family out there

By Anonymous Beatrice, at 7/01/2008 3:17 PM

Wow, you all ran the race! Way to go!

I just left you a comment on your 6/15 post and realized that you may not catch it -- so here it is again, up top.

Hey, Mod*Mom, just catching up in your archives a bit ... sorry to hear that you've got some lumpiness again. I hope that it resolves or that you get a test that brings you peace.

It's not easy. It's never easy.

But we do what we can, and we talk about it so that others will talk about it and take action too. Right? Right.

Which brings me to my point -- you do this so well. Would you like to do this with a group of other moms who have (or have had) cancer? We're gathering over at http://motherswithcancer.com, and it's a growing group.

If you join us (with a post or two a month), there will be twenty of us over there ... there are some amazing women over there already ... check us out and let me know!

Luv, WhyMommy (Susan N)
