Dagoba chocolates are my fave, but I'd also love the fair trade chocolate covered espresso beans. Guess I am due for a caffeine high!

By Blogger Kathleen W., at 3/04/2008 5:04 PM

My little guy is really enjoying music these days--listening to it and making it. So I've got my eyes on the Peruvian Tinya Drum & Stick and the Guatemalan Maracas.

By Blogger Becca, at 3/07/2008 6:15 PM

The oragnic veggie toys would be a big hit with my son and any kind of organic chocolate would be a big hit with me :o)

By Blogger jojoebi-designs, at 3/07/2008 8:31 PM

YUM on the Chocolate gift basket. I always look for the FairTrade symbol when buying coffee beans - global exchange was an excellent website to find. thanks!

By Blogger Diana S, at 3/08/2008 5:29 AM

I love the hand knit animals from Peru.
We need to remember we are citizens of the World, not just our little worlds.

By Blogger Missy, at 3/08/2008 7:10 AM

Dean's Beans Moka Sumatra...my one true addiction! I grab a cup of that and a vegan muffin at Honest Weight Food Co-op almost every day on my way to work. The best coffee ever!!!

By Blogger Kizzi, at 3/08/2008 7:26 AM

My little guy is really enjoying music these days--listening to it and making it. So I've got my eyes on the Peruvian Tinya Drum & Stick and the Guatemalan Maracas. Fair Trade is best for everyone, but most importantly it's best for those who are selling their wares or working for those providing the products because it is supposed to ensure a safe, fair working environment, living wage, etc.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3/08/2008 7:28 AM

I love all the recycled items, especially the recycled wallet! It's a reminder to think twice before buying "c**p" you don't need that hurts other countries and peoples. FAIR TRADE needs to be stamped on packages like ORGANIC is now.

Thanks for another great giveaway!

Dagoba dark chocolate is the best! I'm trying hard to support fair trade by moving beyond chocolate and coffee and seeking out fair trade toys and other household accessories. Global Exchange has so much to choose from.

By Blogger Mindful Momma, at 3/08/2008 8:42 AM

Oh I almost missed this one. I used to work at a fair trade coffee shop and it was by far my favourite place to work. EVERYONE WAS EQUAL! NO BOSS, choose your own schedule and whether you want to train for advancement or not. The people I worked with most were hippies lol, but this needs to be known widespread! Fair trade is the most practical way to buy and work, everyone benefits from it and nobody loses!!
Here are just a few perks of fair trade places to work:
# Paying a fair wage in the local context
# Offering employees opportunities for advancement
# Providing healthy and safe working conditions within the local context.

LOVE YOUR GIVEAWAY!!!!! COUNT ME IN FOR SURE!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3/08/2008 9:08 AM

oops forgot my favourite Global Trade product.... definitely anything in their chocolate selection, I'm an addict!!! But my fav in the chocolate selection are the Dagoba ChocoDrops, I love them!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3/08/2008 9:11 AM

My daughter would love their animal friends from Peru. The chocolate looks delicious! Fair trade is best for everyone because it ensures fair practice, wages, for the workers; awesome products made with love for the consumer; and a nice profit for the owner; everyone wins.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3/08/2008 11:18 AM

mmm...aromatherapy gift set! I'm a sucker for any aromatherapy stuff... also that hot chocolate is bound to be delicious!
Fair trade is so important because it helps people become self sufficient, providing lasting change rather than a quick-fix. It gives producers a fair price for their products. Thanks for the great giveaway Mod*Mom!

the hand knit animals- Its great to know that the artisans can better support their families!

By Blogger Unknown, at 3/08/2008 1:39 PM

I like the retro crochet dolls! and fair trade is important because we should treat everyone as we would like to be treated, even in a third world country. duh!

By Blogger Superdumb Supervillain, at 3/08/2008 3:07 PM

So hard to choose...went straight to the bags! I really like the Floral Canvas Clutch Purse, the Corduroy Hemp Handbags, the Weekender Leather luggage, the Hemp Messenger Bag...I could go on! Buying "Fair Trade" is so necessary and socially responsible to help build global communities and provide workers with decent and appropriate wages, etc. Great giveaway and plug for FT!

I ama big tea lover and the Equal Exchange Rooibos Tea is one of my favorites to buy! As for why fair trade is so important...well, we are all on the same planet and we all deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Fair trade enables us to do this. It allows us to avoid the nameless/faceless corporations and instead connect with people on a deeper more dignified level.

lisaelliott[at]cox[dot]net

By Blogger Cricket, at 3/08/2008 9:05 PM

I LUV the Spiral Gemstone Necklace from Bali.
Fair Trade is exactly what the name states. It is good to know that the trades are regulated (in a sense) to make sure the sale of the products promotes the well being of the producer and their family/community. Being fair and honest makes the world go 'round!

By Blogger Leane, at 3/08/2008 9:27 PM

I love the chocolate!

I believe that buying only free trade items (like sugar, coffee, and chocolate) is so important because I do not want to propagate or promote the use of slaves to produce anything for my consumption, especially luxury items.

I believe it is our duty to find out where our food comes from and to only buy ethically produced products.

Thanks for all of the great contests!

fair trade....it's the right thing!
dark chocolate...good for you and for everyone!!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3/08/2008 11:58 PM

I bought one of the handmade bags a few months ago. I can't tell you how many people stop me on the street to ask about it. I feel good about a fabulous cause, and the bag looks amazing!

By Blogger Danielle, at 3/09/2008 12:33 AM

I love the Brazil nut candles. Something very different and very cool. Fair trade products allow everyone to benefit from fabulous products. The workers/producers benefit from better wages and working environment, and the consumers benefit by receiving a great product and knowing that they are helping others.

By Blogger Heather @ Marine Corps Nomads, at 3/09/2008 7:00 AM

you know when you buy something that you know is a good product from a company that has strong, just ethics? it just makes you FEEL good. i recently tried the chocolate covered ginger beads. perfect. and, again, it's just that whole thing of supporting a product that you can feel good about. makes it taste that much better!

By Blogger you da mom!, at 3/09/2008 10:41 AM

I love the market baskets!!And lots of the jewelry is wonderful! I like that fair trade gives the artisan a chance to support their family and their community based on their work, rather than just getting taken advantage of by some middle man.

By Blogger Shama-Lama Mama, at 3/09/2008 1:55 PM

I love the Dagoba Chocodrops. When thinking about Fair Trade, it's important to remember that there is no such thin as "cheap food". Someone is paying the price at some point and often in the case of poor trade practices it is the farmers who are working for practically nothing.

By Blogger Jinxy and Me, at 3/09/2008 2:23 PM

I love the Peace Coffee and the recycled wallet is pretty cool. I'm a fan of reused things.

By Blogger Bebemiqui, at 3/09/2008 2:56 PM

I like their recycled material diaper bag! What a great idea. As for fair trade, I am still learning about it, but I support it. Thanks for making us more aware.

By Blogger jenna, at 3/09/2008 3:24 PM

The Bundle of Bunnies toy is so cute I know my kids would love playing with it (me too). Fair trade is so important because it helps to improve the standard of living for the people who actually MAKE the products you buy, not just the rich companies who import them.

By Blogger Katie, at 3/09/2008 7:34 PM

The teapot set is my choice.

Fair trade makes sure labor abuses (especially children) do not happen. Makes me happy. Global exchange product love is Chocolate Lover's Gift Baskets - yum yum!
Stephanie V.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3/09/2008 10:09 PM

I just love Putumayo music and would love more of it. I could always go for some chocolate also!

Fair trade is good for everyone because it not only means the people directly working making the products are treated fairly (wages, conditions, etc.) but the product is normally made or farmed in a way so that it is not harmful to the enviroment (in turn safer for the workers also).

Would so LOVE to win this give a way!!

By Blogger Heather, at 3/10/2008 6:41 AM

Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate!!! And that soft little Teddy Bear!

By Blogger Unknown, at 3/10/2008 8:53 AM

Oh I just LOVE the idea of fair trade. It is so great knowing that the people who actually do the work are benefitting. We frequent a restaurant that uses all fair trade ingredients and sells fair trade coffee beans.

I love the jewlery and the stationary. I love the artsy and organic feel/

By Blogger Cassie, at 3/10/2008 9:33 AM

I like the chocolate best.

By Blogger CrystalGB, at 3/10/2008 10:11 AM

I did not get past the chocolate!
(well, Ok I peeked at the coffee and tea too)

What more do you need in life?
Thank you

The Children from Australia to Zimbabwe book looks great--and the finger puppets--and lots of jewelry! I know that if I were to be in the situation many of these "3rd World" artisans were in, I would want the opportunities Fair Trade represents, so I try to support those in that situation! (ie, buy FT : ))

By Blogger Genevieve P, at 3/10/2008 12:53 PM

I would love their Chocolate Lover's Gift Basket, because Fair Trade Chocolate is best for everyone :)

yum yum on the cocoa!

By Blogger the holly, at 3/10/2008 5:46 PM

oh how cute! I'll post it on my blog!

Fair trade is important to help the world's economics and bridge cultures together. There so many beautiful things in the world. Yet I know people who has never even left their state!

By Blogger hipstamom, at 3/11/2008 5:45 AM

this looks so good i would love to win this

By Blogger jenny, at 3/11/2008 6:21 PM

Oh...anything dark chocolate! Fair trade is awesome for many reasons, not the least of which is the safe work environments!

By Blogger Unknown, at 3/13/2008 3:13 PM

{{{Dagoba!}}} mmm...

Fair Trade is a basic essential that we as a community have gotten so far away from. We don't mean to support the "other way," but go on about our business and forget to do something about the injustice of corporate america.

Might I suggest we GET INSPIRED! Be AWARE! Educate yourself and make informed decision- not because you have to, but because you want to. I/we have a vested interest- compassion , community, conscious living...

Fair Trade Coffee is incrediable. Our girl scouts were the first to introduce me to it. I bought it because yes it's the girl scouts and I wanted to help my daughter and her friends, plus have always supported the girl scouts since I had been one.
What a great lesson for them as well, the importance of fair trade and how it helps the world.
Good Coffee, Fair Trade, Girls learning to think with their hearts and minds, you cant lose.

The Tea Lover's Gift Basket caught my attention although everything seems cool there! And when it's Fair Trade, it's nicer to enjoy them when you know the producers have been given what they deserve for their hard work.

By Blogger Unknown, at 3/16/2008 10:29 AM

I adore the recycled messenger bags - what a great idea! Fair trade is important, because it gives developing areas the opportunity to introduce their goods into markets which may have been previously closed to them. Kudos to you and the Fair Trade site for promoting this market!

I want their Equal Exchange Hot Cocoa and their Dagoba CocoaDrops.... and on the more luxurious side... I'd love to score their Chocolate Lovers Gift set. YUMMY!
I think Fair Trade is important to protect the local farmers and the communities where these products actually originate... without them, we wouldn't have our wonderful coffees, teas, and chocolates.
Thanks!

I like the Brazil Nut Candle and the Peace Coffee. Fair Trade brings the benefits of trade into the hands of communities, I think that is good.

By Blogger JaniceJ, at 3/16/2008 1:54 PM

peace coffee and chocolate not just good but globally responsible

By Blogger Princess Golden Hair, at 3/16/2008 2:09 PM

I like all of the "Beads of Beauty" jewelry. To me, fair trade is important because the workers are paid enough to live on, and companies won't go overseas to save money (by not paying their workers fairly), so people here in the states won't lose their jobs.

By Blogger Kimberly B., at 3/16/2008 2:23 PM

I really love the artbar chocolates! And Snoopy does need a stocking...The nice thing about fair trade is that everyone can help redistribute wealth by doing something they already do: consume. Cutting consumption is an important element in making our world more equitable, but for those things we must have (coffee and chocolate!), buying fair trade is the best option. Thanks!

By Blogger amwhiteh, at 3/16/2008 3:03 PM

The bamboo bowls are my fave. Fair trade helps keep us getting great goods at good prices.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3/16/2008 6:06 PM

very important for the environment,The People & the economy .
the Cafe Grande Gift Basket or Green Mountain Coffee. Hard to pick only one ;)

By Blogger cdmtx, at 3/16/2008 6:13 PM

Any of the chocolate or coffee - the dark chocolate artbar looks particularly tempting.

Fair trade is important because similarly minded people who believe in the evolution of society need to make conscious decisions that mirror the ideaology.

I can say I stand for human dignity while I go to Wal-Mart and buy a $20 microwave or I can bite the bullet and pay more for an item made by people earning a fair wage. It's difficult but I sleep better when I make those decisions.

By Blogger ky2here, at 3/16/2008 6:26 PM

The dark chocolate. Fair trade should be more fair than it is at the moment or has ever been.

By Blogger Pat Schraier, at 3/16/2008 6:57 PM

I've always bought fair trade coffee, didn't know there were so many other products you could buy, thanks for the giveaway to show me a great website. It is very important to me to be socially conscious consumer and I will certainly shop form their store. I love the recycled diaper bag for my stepdaughter, but it isn't in stock now. Fair trade is important to give others a fair wage for their products. I would much rather buy from the little guy than the rich corporate conglomerate who pays slave labor rates to children

I've sent gift baskets from Global Exchange, and they are great to work with! Fair Trade is vital, because we shouldn't sacrifice the health and well-being of other workers, for a minor convenience/treat for ourselves. It's sad, really. My favorite product there is the Fair Trade Extravaganza Gift Basket, which I've sent several times.

My favorite fair trade products are the dolls and childrens toys but I also LOVE the soccer ball on that site. It is behind belief to me that we continue to buy products made by children and adults in horrible working conditions that are making less than a living wage. :-(

By Blogger Laura, at 3/18/2008 2:54 PM

Whoops - I forgot the second part of your question. As a knitter, I know how hard it is to get paid what you deserve for your handiwork so I appreciate that Fair Trade helps handcrafters and other workers receive a fair wage for the hard work they do.

By Blogger Laura, at 3/18/2008 2:58 PM

By Blogger Unknown, at 3/18/2008 7:05 PM

I really like the recycled messenger bag and chocolate gold coins! Fair trade is important to me because I cannot stand to think of some other mommy's child slaving away so that my kids can have a t-shirt or chocolate bar. I want my sons to understand how they are connected to those children oceans away, and realize that our choices impact them too.

By Blogger Lee, at 3/18/2008 7:45 PM

Their Animal Friends from Peru are really sweet! Fair Trade is so important. I know what hard work it is to make things by hand, and it is important that we appreciate those who do it. We need to value life around the globe, and by paying a little for a lot, we enable companies to run poor working conditions and sometimes even violate human rights. I'm not saying it would be easy, but it would be a good thing to simplify our lives (for the good of others) and buy good quality (and safe!) products for our use and our family.

I am a huge basket lover and use them for EVERYTHING, including going off to the store. So, my first fav is the market baskets from Ghana. I can't believe they are woven by young men! The history of them and how they are made is intriging, and can't believe how inexpensive they are.

I am also an avid collector of boxes and am eyeing the Egyptian Mother of pearl box. But, it is unavailable! Wah!

I am in love with this site, and all sorts of things, like the Cat Pillow. silk scarves, the beaded sting bracelets, and of course almost every peice of jewelry!

Thanks for leading me to this fabulaous site, scuse me while I go shopping!

There are so many categories of products with which to choose from, I found several that are my favorites in each and every one of them! But something I use everyday is coffee. So my pick is the Peace Coffee and specifically the Blendo Suave! I am very picky about the coffee I drink and I believe in Fair Trade products and organic products as well, and this coffee is it! Fair Trade is best for everyone because if we can help low income farmers and artisans make a decent living, and at the same time engage in environmentally "friendly" practices, then it is a win-win situation for us all!
