pastil chair by eero aarnio 1967

"the pastil shape can be looked at from many angles. the product shape comes from a small sweetie, pastil, but in this case the idea was, that a lot of empty, cushioned space is sent to the other side of the world inside the Ball Chair. A new round chair would fit in this space, + so the diameter of the Pastil is the same as the opening of the Ball Chair." eero aarnio

I worked at a modern furniture store for several years, and had ordered many pastil chairs through Aarnio. We would nestle in them into the Ball Chair and get them shipped for free, and when we unwrapped them it was like the ball chair had a little shiny plastic baby!
