we need a stronger consumer product safety commission (CPSC) to keep unsafe toys out of stores, + a stronger food + drug administration (FDA) to protect us from unsafe food + drug imports. only 1% of imported toys, food + drugs are inspected. foreign manufacturers risk incurring our weak penalties, because they know there's a 99% chance they won't get caught. toy, food + drug recalls are now "voluntary" on the part of foreign manufacturers, that's why they are able to make toys with lead + sell them in america to compete with strictly inspected american made products. i saw the democratic presidential debate on cnn tonight By mod*mom, at 11/15/2007 9:36 PM Thank you so much for writing about this issue. It's serious-- WE are the consumers the Consumer Product Safety Commission is supposed to protect, but it seems like they're looking out for the best interests of big business. Let's hope people can come together to demand better! (MomsRising.org is working on this.) By Anita Sarah Jackson, at 11/16/2007 12:13 PM thank you for reading it pacificmod + thanks for telling me you're supporting a stronger cpsc! By mod*mom, at 11/16/2007 3:55 PM
I completely agree! We were talking abou this at work and I'm sure it would be mindblowing if a random analysis across the import spectrum was done. I WILL NOT buy Sf toys that are made in China. PERIOD. By Ms. Mamma, at 11/20/2007 11:11 AM
