breastcancer.org has info, support + swirly bracelets to show you care + fund research programs. i was just diagnosed 2 days ago + told to decide whether i want mastectomy right away or try chemotherapy for 2 months to see if it will shrink the very large tumor enough to have the option of lumpectomy, so i can keep my nipple + some of my breast tissue + most of the skin. the doctor gave me a folder with flyers for breast cancer support meetings where i could learn more about breast cancer + maybe talk to people who'd had both of those procedures. the next night (last night) i attended a community breast health project meeting in palo alto, ca. they have a research library with a very helpful librarian. they also have a helpline + a "buddy" program to help you learn about + get through your treatment. this week i did a blood test, lung xray + catscan too. i get the test results + "stage" of disease next monday morning with a surgeon + an oncologist (cancer doctor who gives chemotherapy in 6 week cycles, 5 days per week for 4-12 months). they'll tell me what my options are based on the "stage" of the progression of the disease. then i'll take all my test results + get a 2nd opinion with another surgeon in the afternoon. i'll probably have a 2nd opinion with another oncologist asap. i would be very fortunate to have an opinion made at stanford's "tumor board" where my results would be looked at by several specialists. i have to move very quickly on my decision if i have surgical options (if i'm not at the end stage). i don't find out til monday + i am in a cold sweat + ill, so it's hard to be optimistic, but i'm trying because i have the most wonderful daughter in the world + she's only 2 1/2 + i want to be there for her +her children. by ~mod*mom~ at 27.1.06 © 2 Comments:Sending positive thoughts your way. , at
