erik of square one design + drafting emailed me today asking if anyone remembers a "scholastic" book from the 1970's described like this:

"years ago in elementary school, i purchased a scholastic book that told the story of a family of blobs. i can not remember the name of the book or the title or author. the story line went like... the family lived in the projects of the big city + one day the evil wrecking crew + the machines they operated came + tore down the family's apartment. so the family went in search of a new home + found a quiet spot to build a new home. they built this home by pouring cement around the dad blob + letting it harden. dad blob would then squeeze out + set up for the next 'room' to be poured around him. (this has got to be mine + many others very first exposure to pre-fab architecture!) the family lived happily until one day in the distance the wrecking machines appeared once again. the family mounted a fierce opposition by creating their own catapult + cannon balls to fight off the wrecking machines." (is that the barbapapas story?)

tickle me extreme elmo 10th anniversary doll unveiled today!
some targets have them. they didn't have these at the target in cupertino, but the mom's were talking about him + they're going to get one asap.
i was even going to get one. babies + toddlers love his big eyes, red fur, orange nose, high pitched friendly voice + giggling. tmx elmo does more.

fitzsu :: fatboy modern bean bag chairs were all over the dwell conference.
mod*tot jumped on a hot pink one + i dragged her around on it in circles + zoomed her in zig zags while she held on tight giggling. they're very big + comfortable. fitzsu also has an amazing selection of allesi products + tons of other designer products. the chrome dustbuster was a show favorite. i got to meet fitz + aunnie + they're very nice.

ecopod plastic bottle + aluminum can crushing machines out december 2006
i saw these at the dwell conference. they hold about 60 crushed bottles + cans, plus some uncrushed glass bottles or plastic bags in the top part. you step on the lever to crush. i like it in white.

leisurama :: prefab vacation homes sold by macy's in 1964 :: documentary
i saw this wonderful film yesterday at the dwell magazine conference. the house was "turn key" + came with everything including blankets, dishes, furniture + toothbrushes. it features that couple in the last pictures. they still live in one. they're showing it again this weekend. i'm headed there now for the "sustainability" segment. i've got a lot to post about asap.

dwell on design :: san francisco is this weekend!!! i'm going! there are still tickets for you. you can pre-register online or pay at the door. this is where the newest prefab will be presented by the actual architects!
i have to rush to radiation treatment now, but i'll be back to talk more about dwell + prefab..

i'm back. it's very late. i'm like a kid on christmas eve, too excited to go to sleep. i'll get up at the crack of dawn + drive to san francisco for a sneak preview day at dwell magazine's design conference. i may be risking my life. i'm skipping radiation + chemotherapy (i saw my oncologist today. the good news is my heart is stronger. the bad news is my heart is strong enough to restart the drug that damaged it to 39%. i told him i'm busy tomorrow). i'm also skipping physical therapy :: i love my class + teacher. i'll also miss mod*tot + mod*pop + i won't be able to work on anything tomorrow, so i'm mocoloco + risking it all to immerse myself in prefab architecture + modern contemporary design for 3 days.
