mom's mom was a squaw

my mom's mom + her mom were born on a Cherokee Reservation in Indian Territory where they were separated yet assimilated daughters of a matriarchal native culture conquered + intermarried with patriarchal British in an effort to coexist as "civilized"

i was fascinated to watch AmericaUnearthed on History H2 Channel declare there are pyramids in the U.S. + the history we learned at school is not true. well, guess what? i googled + found my american ancestral pyramid documented in court records, college dissertations + native heritage books!!!

our village was in my ggggrandma's personal reservation. british burned it 1730s - 1760s, then the US tricked her out of it in 1826: upholding her ownership, but ruling since squatters had already built a settlement on her land, they could stay there + take it over :(
so basically the US did not honor their treaty to her reservation for life. then in the 1830s the US forcibally removed most of the native americans from the South East, but my ggggrandma legally remained with her white husband + helped keep hundreds of cherokee safe on their family reservations until the 1860s US Civil War over native american lands devastation + settler insurgence crowded out + covered over cherokee culture.
