i've been teaching mod*tot how to sew

i've been teaching mod*tot how to sew. she draws dolly dress designs, then picks out fabrics from my colorful fabric stash + we cut the fabric together with scissors (normally, i use a rotary cutter, but it's too sharp to practice with). then we pin the pieces together + i show her all the settings + parts of the sewing machine + we sew the dresses + try them on the dollies. it was also fun to show her little tricks for handsewing, like threading a needle + making a knot. they're things i do automatically + seem simple, but take a lot of dexterity + look like magic tricks to her.

  5. Wow, that was wonderful. I'm sure you enjoyed the time teaching her. =) I went backwards, I didn't learn to use the sewing machine til I was 13. My mum started me on handsewing and crocheting when I was a little tot and I was occupied with that I never thought to ask how to use a sewing machine. Starting at your daughter's age is a great idea! Do post photos of her creations sooon. =)
